We design and typeset books in which typography serves the content. Academic, trade, and literary publications, from concept to print-ready files.
We have been designing books for over twenty-five years. We treat each publication as a separate typographic issue: a different genre, a different structure, a different reader. We combine experience in typesetting with knowledge of printing technology and conscious design decisions, thanks to which the book is not only aesthetic, but above all readable and timeless in its form.
We start designing a book by understanding its content, structure, and audience. Based on this, we build a template: we define the format, margins, typographic grid, heading hierarchy, and visual navigation system. The result is a cohesive graphic layout that organizes even the most complex material.
We specialize in publications with a complex typographic structure: with tables, charts, footnotes, bibliography, indexes, and mathematical formulas. We work with academic publishers, universities, and research institutions, ensuring compliance with formal and editorial requirements.
Text layout is a craft in which every detail matters, from leading and word spacing to the control of widows, orphans, and runts. We apply the principles of the Polish typographic tradition, taking care of the rhythm of the column, correct hyphenation, and the optical balance of the page.
We design covers that attract attention and communicate the character of the publication. We take into account the type of binding (softcover, hardcover, dust jacket), printing technology, and refinements. The cover is created as an integral part of the graphic design, not a separate addition, but a thought-out element of the whole.
Good book typography is invisible. The reader does not think about the typeface or the width of the margin, because the layout of the page guides them through the content naturally and effortlessly. Achieving this effect requires precise decisions: the right publication format, well-thought-out proportions of the text column, appropriate leading, and a consistent rhythm of white space. It is these details that distinguish a professional book from one typeset "by eye".
In our studio, every book goes through three stages: concept (format, grid, typefaces, proof template), actual typesetting (text layout, formatting of graphic elements, corrections), and production preparation (preflight, PDF/X files, cooperation with the printing house). At each stage, we ensure that typographic decisions stem from the character of the content, and not from habit.
Not all books can be typeset using default templates in layout software. Monographs with hundreds of footnotes, academic textbooks with multi-level tables, legal publications with an extensive citation apparatus, catalogs with thousands of index entries – these are materials that require experience, patience, and tools that go beyond the standard features of InDesign.
We create proprietary scripts that automate repetitive operations: footnote numbering, index generation, conditional table formatting, citation style conversion. This allows us to maintain uniformity of typesetting even in publications of several hundred pages, without the risk of accidental discrepancies between chapters.
We work with various genres and formats: academic monographs and university textbooks, trade and popular science books, corporate and jubilee publications, photo albums, as well as literature: prose, poetry, and reportage. We approach each genre with a different set of typographic solutions, because an academic monograph with a scholarly apparatus is designed differently than a collection of short stories, where the breathing room and rhythm of the page are what counts.
We collaborate with publishers, universities, cultural institutions, companies, and independent authors. Regardless of the scale of the project, from a pocket-sized volume of poetry to a multi-volume encyclopedia, we apply the same standard of care and the same set of quality controls.
We design publication layouts for a wide range of editorial formats, primarily for trade and industry magazines. Our portfolio includes over twenty published titles, each prepared with meticulous attention to the specifics of its subject matter.
Professional typesetting of books, magazines, catalogues, and reports in Adobe InDesign. Text layout, table and chart formatting, technical editing, and prepress file preparation. We specialize in publications with complex typographic structures.
Our team includes experienced editors and meticulous proofreaders — the most attentive readers a text can have. Their linguistic sensitivity and exceptional thoroughness ensure every publication receives the highest standard of editorial care.
We create engaging reports that influence business decisions: from concise one-pagers to comprehensive analyses. We select the appropriate format for the specific content and audience needs. We combine solid research methodology with clear visual presentation.
We typeset doctoral dissertations, habilitation monographs, and academic books for publication. We perform technical editing: from unifying structure and footnotes to typesetting tables, charts, and mathematical formulas, in accordance with publisher and university requirements.
We know which questions to ask to arrive at distinctive and functional typographic solutions — for large corporations and small businesses alike, wherever the right typeface choice makes a measurable difference.
We support developers, especially front-end developers. We design and program responsive and interactive website typography along with accessibility principles. We create HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code compliant with specifications.
Using tools for content analysis, complex text pattern matching, and conditional transformation of styles and formats, we build systems that streamline the publication layout process and reduce both effort and turnaround time.
We provide Adobe Creative Cloud training for companies and institutions, combined with typography and design principles. We also conduct UX audits and expert usability analyses of online products and printed publications.
The completion time depends on the volume, degree of complexity, and type of publication. The graphic design of a 200–300 page book usually takes between three and six weeks. Typesetting alone: from two to four weeks. We determine a detailed schedule after reviewing the material.
We design and typeset academic, trade, popular science, literary, album, and corporate books. We specialize in publications with a complex structure: with tables, charts, footnotes, mathematical formulas, and scholarly apparatus.
We deliver a complete InDesign file with a template, defined paragraph and character styles, a typographic grid, typeset text, and graphics in place. Upon request, we also prepare the cover design, title page, copyright page, and other components of the book.
Yes. We design covers as an integral part of the book's graphic design, both for the printed version (softcover, hardcover, dust jacket) and digital. The cover takes into account the specifics of the genre, the target audience, and the technical requirements of the printing house.
Yes. In addition to the print version, we prepare files in ePub, MOBI, and interactive PDF formats. For e-books, we ensure the correctness of the structure, metadata, and accessibility, in accordance with the requirements of distribution platforms.
The cost depends on the volume of the publication, the degree of typographic complexity, and the scope of work, from typesetting alone to a full graphic design with a cover. After reviewing the material, we prepare a free quote, usually within one business day.
